A-GAMES PROJECT ----video games & education



"a new report on how teachers use video games in classrooms identifies features they find most useful to track student learning, as well as gaps where better tools could help link games more closely to the curriculum." 

  • A-GAMES stands for Analyzing Games for Assessment in Math, English language arts/Social Studies, and Science
  • UNIV. of Michigan and New York university study of 5th-8th graders
  •  "formative assessment" vs.  "summative assessment," is assessing learning as it happens (formative) versus at the end of the semester/high stake testing (summative) 
  • 57% of teachers use digital games in their classroom (survey)
  • they found that a combination of video games and external resources worked best for student learning
  • "they represent one of the fastest-growing areas of venture investment in education." $$$$$
  • GAMES Are essential, but teachers find many issues in its beginning stages.
